Deighton Brunson – President

Grandson of founder A.N. Brunson, Deighton Brunson has served as President for more than 20 years. At sixteen-years old, he began cleaning and disassembling surveying instruments and gained hands-on experience in many areas of the factory. After college, Brunson became a full-time employee in the R&D department, where he designed and built new products such as a digital electronic level, a dual-axis differential electronic level and more. Deighton was the team manager of BETS (Brunson Electronic Triangulation System), a major software and hardware project used with Kern theodolites in the early days of 3D measurement.

Mr. Brunson continues to uphold the vision and values of his grandfather with an inventor’s passion for the work and its challenges. Today, he engages in strategic project planning, maintains a competent management team, and keeps the corporate structure and its professional workforce moving in a positive direction. He savors specialized engineering and design projects, software design and programming for optical applications.

Deighton holds a Bachelor of Science degree and a Master of Science degree in Electrical Engineering from the University of Missouri, Magna Cum Laude.  He has a Professional Engineer’s license in Missouri, and continues to expand his education with technical training courses on instrumentation and software.

Richard Powell – Vice President

Mr. Powell joined Brunson Instrument Company in 2000 and has over 25 years of experience in finance, distribution and manufacturing management. Richard is the general manager of the company and handles the day-to-day operations of the enterprise. Prior to joining Brunson, he held key positions as a management consultant for twelve years at Carr & Associates, and was the CEO of an automotive aftermarket distribution center with multiple retail outlets. He also served as a data processing manager with the Columbia Board of Education. Powell holds an AA degree in accounting from the Capital Business College.

Matt Settle – Alignment Services Director

For more than 25 years, Matt Settle has delivered high-precision, large scale metrology services for Brunson Instrument Company. He has performed alignment work all over the world to help industrial customers optimize manufacturing processes for increased production, better quality and reduced costs. He managed Brunson’s Field Alignment Service Organization, and moved on to lead the Technical Services Business Group. As the company’s Product Manager, Matt is a valuable collaborator between Brunson and their customers in industries such as aerospace, power generation, ship building, pulp and paper, printing and rolled steel, and automotive. Settle graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Missouri-Rolla (now called Missouri University of Science and Technology).

Carl Baines – International Sales Manager

Carl Baines brings more than twenty years of metrology and engineering expertise to Brunson Instrument Company. As their International Sales Manager, Baines manages the company’s International Distribution channel providing technical and sales support for Brunson products and services. Prior to joining Brunson, he was a metrology engineer at Airbus with the team that developed the A380 wing measurement processes at Broughton, UK. Carl also worked as a sales/application engineer supporting laser tracker products at SMX Corporation, and was employed as a manufacturing engineer at BAE Systems. Baines also co-founded the LVMC (Large Volume Measurement Conference) in the UK. He holds an Honours degree in Mechanical and Production Engineering BEng (Hons) from Sheffield Hallam University(UK).

Mark Meuret – Director of Engineering

Mark Meuret has been part of the Brunson team for more than a decade.  During this time, he has served as an Engineering Manager, Stand Business Unit Manager, and Product Manager of Metrology Solutions. He is currently the company’s Engineering Manager focused on research and development of new and existing Brunson products. His responsibilities include the development of solutions for the metrology industry and product life cycle management. Mark holds a BSME degree from the University of Nebraska and a Masters degree in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Missouri.  He is also a licensed professional engineer in the state of Kansas.
