Our models 509 (battery powered) and 509-AC (AC powered) light sources fit our various instruments and accessories to provide reticle or target illumination for alignment functions.  Many of our optical tooling instruments are capable of performing alignment functions such as autoreflection, collimation, autocollimation, colineation, and reticle projection.  However, a light source is required to illuminate the reticle in all of these procedures.

Cool source lighting is provided by a white LED lamp which is almost as bright as our old fiberoptic light sources and which has a 100,000 hour life. The light source is powered by three common button cell batteries (included)  that provide 100 hours of illumination. The light source casing is made of stainless steel and incorporates a water resistant seal, making it tough enough for your most challenging industrial environments. The twist-on, twist-off feature means there are no switches or wires to break. Its compact size fits easily in your pocket, instrument case or tool box. You can even plunge a transit with a 509 light source installed.

Alternatively, we offer the model 509-AC light source when the freedom and convenience of battery operation is just too much to bear.  The 509-AC includes a lightweight multi-input voltage (100-240V) transformer with multiple plug configurations, which allows this unit to operate worldwide.

To use this light source as a target backlight on our 521-B spherical mount, order accessory 509-SMB.  To use this light source as a target backlight for Taylor Hobson's 112/376 spherical mount, order accessory 509-SMTH.

Note: This light source fits most current and older models requiring illumination.  It replaces the 500, 501, 502, 508 and 5511 light sources (For complete compatibility information, please see "May be used with" section below).  Contact us regarding adapters for instruments which require a specialized light housing.
